Ce n'est pas la place du ténor Louis-Ferdinand, mais bien de sa nièce Marie-Rose !

Marie-Rose RICHELME est née à Aix le 14 août 1836 et y meurt le 13 mars 1902, à l’âge de 65 ans.

Comme elle était veuve et sans descendance, en 1901 elle avait rédigé le testament suivant :

« Je lègue à la ville d’Aix, ma ville natale, ma campagne dite Villa Richelme, terroir d’Aix, quartier du Pigonnet. Je désire qu’elle y installe un musée, de préférence de peintures ou de dessins, qui sera appelé musée Richelme. »

Cependant, ses terrains étaient situés dans le Quartier du Pigonnet en pleine campagne aixoise à l'époque. Jugés trop éloignés du centre-ville, le maire Joseph CABASSOL en 1904 préféra les utiliser à d’autres fins. Joseph JOURDAN, afin d’honorer la mémoire de cette généreuse bienfaitrice, donnera le nom de RICHELME à l’ancienne Place du MARCHÉ aux HERBES en 1930.
