Marius REINAUD was born in Aix on October 27, 1795, a few years after the French Revolution. His father was a goldsmith and a bit of an engraver. Observation of his work allowed little Marius to discover his vocation.

After attending the School of Drawing, he began to engrave, at the age of 17, portraits from drawings including:

François Marius GRANET by INGRES,

Jean-Antoine CONSTANTIN by GRAS,

The Count of FORBIN by INGRES,

The Marquis de MÉJANES by BOUDON.

Then, he will become the official engraver of the works of François Marius GRANET.

In 1834, Marius REINAUD left the Parisian solicitations and decided to found with his younger brother Jules the first lithograph in Aix. From his lithography workshop many labels and signs were produced for Aix merchants.

Marius REINAUD died at his home in what is now Rue CLÉMENCEAU on March 2, 1868, at the age of 72.
